I’m studying for my next certification, to officially become a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant. The CBCC-KA test requires you have over 300 hours of behavior consulting experience under your belt before you can even apply. You must demonstrate you work with dogs with fear, anxiety & aggression. There’s a grueling test, testing your knowledge of applied behavior analysis, consulting skills and best practices, ethology, body language, and observational skills, health, development, and life stages, biology and anatomy & scientific methods for analysis of progress. I take my test on May 3rd, wish me luck!
Dog training is an unregulated profession. Certifications are completely voluntary but for the pet owner about to spend hundreds or maybe even thousands of dollars on their beloved dog, certifications should be researched and should be a mandatory requirement when choosing who to hire. Certification proves the trainer has invested in their profession and cares about providing the best services possible.
I am so proud to be a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) and soon I hope to also be a Certified Behavior Consultant Canine (CBCC).
